EVT Deploys Amazon EC2 for Windows in SFTP Workloads Solution for Big Pharma Leader

BACKGROUND

One of the world’s largest independent biotech companies wanted to migrate and support the production of its Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) workloads to its AWS production account during a scheduled cutover to facilitate sharing of test data by third-party partners with the customer’s research teams.

CHALLENGE

An EVT enterprise customer, the company was outgrowing its on-premise infrastructure and a refresh to support a standard SFTP migration solution was cost prohibitive.

SOLUTION

EVT deployed a customized SFTP migration and support runbook solution through the customer’s Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline using Python and CloudFormation stacks. The code was maintained in GitHub repos and configured for automated scanning using Sonar along the approval gates in conformance with the customer’s security and change management policies. EVT used System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Windows Service Update Service (WSUS) to manage the configuration and patch management for the Windows Job and SFTP servers. The solution included MOVEit, a third-party application and the following AWS services: EC2, FSx (Windows File Server and NetApp), SSM (Systems Manager), S3, WAF (Web Application Firewall), ALB (Application Load Balancer), Secrets Manager, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, TGW, Backup, Route53, AWS Systems Manager, EBS (Elastic Block Store).

OUTCOME

The migration and support solution of SFTP workloads to the customer’s AWS primary production account reduced operational costs, automated configuration and provisioning, promoted a security-compliant OS upgrade, increased service levels, facilitated High Availability and enhanced Recovery RPO and RTO.
